THE PARIS 1940S

THE PARIS 1940S IS A 5 PIECE HAILING FROM THE MIDLANDS WHO SEEM TO REVEL IN TOYING WITH WHAT IS EXPECTED OF THEM. SEE THEM LIVE AND THE STAGE SET UP WILL HAVE YOU CONVINCED YOU’VE STUMBLED ACROSS A QUAINT SOHO JAZZ CLUB; WAIT FOR THE BAND TO GET ON STAGE AND THE FLOPPY HAIR AND CHECK SHIRTS SHOULD HAVE YOUR INDIE STEREOTYPE KICKING IN NICELY. CHANCES ARE WHATEVER YOU THINK YOU’RE ABOUT TO HEAR, THE REALITY WILL BE SOMETHING VERY DIFFERENT.

WHAT FOLLOWS IS AN INTRICATELY ARRANGED, EXPERTLY DELIVERED COCKTAIL OF JAZZ, SWING, SAMBA, POP AND EXPERIMENTAL INDIE/ROCK, PLUCKED FROM A SEEMINGLY INFINITE REPERTOIRE OF SONGS FROM MGMT TO MOTORHEAD AND EVERYTHING IN BETWEEN, QUITE LITERALLY. WITH SETS PACKED WITH SENSATIONAL SOLOS (HARRY LIGHTFOOT, SAXOPHONE AND JOE ARCHER, GUITAR), MULTI-LAYERED VOCALS (THOM KIRKPATRICK) AND SAX HARMONIES LOOPED LIVE ON STAGE, THE 1940’S WILL HAPPILY LET THE MOST ECLECTIC AUDIENCE WATCH ON IN INTRIGUED BEWILDERMENT BEFORE PULLING ATTENTION BACK JUST IN TIME FOR AN UNMISTAKABLE CHORUS THAT ONLY SOMEBODY WHO HAS MANAGED TO AVOID ALL MUSIC FOR THE LAST FEW DECADES WILL MISS.

KATY PERRY LIKE YOU’VE NEVER HEARD BEFORE, FRANZ FERDINAND AT A FRENETIC TEMPO (JIM BASHFORD, PERCUSSION AND MARTYN SPENCER, DOUBLE BASS) AND LADY GAGAS’ THREE HIT SINGLES SHOE-HORNED INTO AS MANY MINUTES WILL LEAVE YOU THINKING, WELL, I WASN’T EXPECTING THAT! ADD TO THAT SOME VERY EXCITING SOUNDING ORIGINAL MATERIAL ON THE HORIZON, THE SURPRISES SHOW NO SIGN OF STOPPING. WATCH THIS SPACE.
